Oakley LMG Players of the Month

Major League - Pitcher of the Month - TIM REDDING

Tim Redding

Washington Nationals

Tim started off the season strong, proving why the Nationals are considering him one of their consistently starting pitchers.

Manny Acta, Washington GM had this to say about Tim after another strong outing by him, Tuesday April 29th, “Redding did a tremendous job.  He ran his pitch count up early in the game, but he did very well.  He stood out there in the last inning.  He’s not a kid anymore, so we gave him a chance to work through Kotsay instead of bringing in the lefty out of the bullpen...Redding battles every five days."

Redding has the most innings pitched of all the LMG Pitchers (33.0) and the second most wins (3).

Major League - Position Player of the Month - DAVID MURPHY

David Murphy

Texas Rangers

David has started the 2008 season strong, batting a solid.290 in 100 at bats.  His consistent and reliable performance has the Rangers excited about their acquisition.  Murphy has proved all the reports wrong and performed.

After the first week of the season MLB.com was saying, “One this has emerged from the first week of the season for the Rangers...David Murphy does not appear to be a fourth outfielder, no matter what they thought in Boston.”

Manager Ron Washington said, “I expected to round-robin all of them but [Murphy] is swinging the bat well, as long as he’s swinging the bat and playing as well as he’s playing, you’ve got to pencil him in.  Even when he doesn’t get his hits, he’s on base with a walk.  He’s catching everything that’s hit to him and running things down out there.  He’s playing good baseball.”

Minor League - Pitcher of the Month - JON NIESE

Jon Niese

Binghamton Mets

Niese came out strong this April posting an amazing 0.71 ERA after five game starts and 25.1 innings of work.  Jon also notched two wins and his K:BB Ratio is a phenomenal 22:7.

USA Today had these comments about Jon on April 25:  Double-A Binghamton's Jon Niese is sporting a 0.71 ERA after throwing six scoreless innings on Thursday.

Niese, the top pitching prospect left in the Mets' system, is holding Eastern League hitters to a .198 average. There's a good chance injuries will force him to make his major league debut this year, though he shouldn't be ready for a permanent rotation spot until the middle of 2009 anyway.
