Mike Carp's grand slam capped a seven-run eighth
inning as St. Lucie outslugged Fort Myers, 13-7,
on Tuesday.
The Miracle (18-14) tied the score, 6-6, in the
eighth on Garrett Guzman's three-run homer, but
the Mets (20-11) came roaring back in the bottom
of the frame.
Jesus Flores, who went 3-for-5, led off the
inning with a shot over the left-field wall,
Joshua Peterson hit a two-run blast and Carp
cleared the bases with his fifth of the year.
Matt Lindstrom (1-0) picked up the win in
relief, despite allowing three runs on three
hits with two walks in two innings.
Fort Myers reliever Josh Hill (1-2) took the
loss, surrendering five runs on four hits in 1
1/3 frames.
Guzman drove in five runs and Johnny Woodard
also homered for the Miracle, who settled for a
split of the four-game series.
New York second baseman Anderson Hernandez went
1-for-5 in his second game on a rehab
assignment. Hernandez has been on the disabled
list since April 18 due to a bulging disc in his
lower back.
